action news live at midday. i'm todd quinones. and i'm yasmeen hassan...filling in for dayna roselli..... we begin with night's debate...donald trump and hillary clinton facing off one-on-one for the first time.... it was one of the most widely anticpated presidential debates of all time... and it didn't dissapoint... millions of people wwatched the debate and enagaed on social media. the debate turned into more of a back yard brawl trump started out strong... putting clinton on the defensive bu turning those critiques of her around... donald trump, (r) presidential nominee: let me tell you, let donald trump, (r) presidential nominee: let me tell you, let the place and you decided to stay home [butted with] sot-clinton: i think donald just criticized me for preparing for this debate. and yes, i did. and you know else i prepared for? i prepared to be president. and then there's the whole "sniffles" controversy... many viewers say they heard sniffles, but trump claims he had a bad microphone ...

monsoon moisture continues to surge north from mexico allowing skies to become partly cloudy by this afternoon. possible showers start this evening into wednesday morning. high temperatures today will be between 87 and 92 degrees with winds out of the east between 5 and 10 mph. by tomorrow, our best rain chances hit the valley. 30% to 35% chances will be common through the day and decrease to about 20% to 25% overnight and clear into thursday morning. thunderstorms will be possible but may hold to the other side to the mid and low 80s but a home in north las vegas catches on fire....for the second time in two weeks! and it has people living nearby worried about their safety. 13 action news reporter marissa kynaston tells us how neighbors are now taking matters into their own hands. people living in this neighborhood have resorted to carrying guns-- so concerned about what their so called neighbors might do next. they say this home has been

police say pedro garcia rushed in.... to the stabuck's at warm springs road and rainbow boulevard.. and gunned down a random customer after his credit card was declined at the drive thru. we're told the 34 year-old was having financial problems and his brother had recently died. ever since then, he just wasn't the same, he would see him, he would feel like his brother is talking to him. police believe the victim was a complete stranger killed after some sort of confrontation. we ae identity to be released. officials say six people were taken to area hospitals after they were injured by the shooter. three were treated at the scene and released. one of the victims....kevin chap is still hospitalized. both candidates at last night's debate. this midday, we're putting those to the test with our partners at politifact. trade and the economy were big topics throughout. at one point hillary clinton attacked donald trump over the housing crisis. sot (:15) clinton"in fact, donald was one of the people who rooted for the housing crisis. he said back in 2006, 'gee, i hope it does collapse because then i can go in and buy some and make some money.' well it did collapse". trump: that's called business politifact says trump did say those things during an interview for an audio book that was part of trump university. but they say trump was talking about investment in real estate and was 'not' hoping the entire economy would crash. so.. politifact rates clinton's statement 'mostly true.' next, trump attacked clinton on trade... saying she flip-flopped on support for the trans-pacific partnership:

being sent out in northern california-- thanks to an out of control wildfire. this morning.. families are getting ready to leave their homes. the fire department is asking about 300 people to be prepared to grab their things and go-- at a moment's notice. "it feels like the wind has shifted and that's what would personally make me nervous. that's what the sheriff said the fire burning in the santa cruz mountains has already burned several structures, including homes. right now crews are working to battle the flames from the air and on the ground. and.. people in iowa are anxiously watching the rising cedar river this morning-- as it threatens to devastate the city with flash flooding. entire neighborhoods and downtown cedar rapids are being forced to evacuate.

all caught on camera. the alleged assault took place earlier this month. houston metro police released the video monday, and that prompted one of the officers in the video to quit his job... but as lauren lea reports, charges are still possible. excessive force-pkg we can't hear what was said between officer jairus warren and darrell giles on this burnet station platform but the video speaks for itself. officer warren repeatedly strikes giles with his baton - while another officer, d reynoso is nearby. reynoso is seen intervening in the video chief bumpers says he should have done so sooner. she also released video of a previous encounter officers had with giles on the platform that same day. (metro police chief vera bumpers) "they had dealt with him a couple of times earlier that morning asking him to leave the platform and he was combative." this is where their stories differ. the video shows giles slumped on a bench as the officers approached. officer) "when he told me to leave, i left." giles appears to be combative as he walks off. he told eyewitness news he went back to get his cell phone and that's when officer warren hit him . chief bumpers also says officer reynoso reported the incident to his sergeant and he was cleared of a wrongdoing. she says the officers should have charged the victim with trespassing or arrested him without force if he refused to leave.
